A bit about Extensions
It used to take months to get the planning permission for an extension. But, as long as your property is a house (as opposed to a flat, apartment, maisonette etc.), you don’t need to apply for an extension. As long as the extension is less than eight metres for a detached house or six metres for a semi/terraced house, then you’re automatically approved.
So, it’s now easier than ever to have that extra living space you always wanted. Connect the inside of your house to the outside with a gorgeous extension into the back garden with bifold doors, or create that new dedicated workspace so you can work remotely.
FAQs
It’s not a free-for-all, and there are some rules you must follow, such as using similar building materials to the existing property and it not being taller than the current building. Get a good architect who will make sure you’re compliant.
Generally, going out is cheaper than extending up. Adding another floor means removing the roof, which can create a whole new set of problems. However, if you have a decent, existing attic space, it can be done with minor trauma and cost. When you extend out, you only have to match the new roof to the current one.
Hey, anything is possible if you have the budget. And if you’re going to dig down, you will need plenty of cash and spare for contingencies. If you already have a basement area, we can convert it into a dry and modern living space.
Usually, they do. But you have to consider the property prices in your area and compare them to the cost of the extension. If you’re planning on living there for some time, it’s less of a factor. But if you’re doing up a property to sell, you have to think about it carefully.
